Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, we as the newly-formed Durban City FC are planning to make our mark on the KwaZulu-Natal footballing landscape and far beyond.
Soccer fanatics in and around the Durban area can look forward to having the chance to support a modern, dynamic club, as we blend our vast expertise and experience in the game with some of the latest footballing trends on and off the field.
With strong community ties at the heart of our future endeavors, we are striving to build a football club which our supporters can be proud to support and which will create a legacy in years ahead. While there will be a fair amount of change from the Maritzburg United days, our ambition is to retain the same kind of heart and soul of the team which made it so beloved to fans.
Our team will be playing out of the Chatsworth Stadium, which we hope will become a home fortress making life tough for any visiting sides. A welcoming, inclusive, family-friendly environment on match days and around the club in general will make this a club for the people.
Our immediate focus – after working hard behind the scenes to install structures and build a competitive squad – was to gain promotion to the Betway Premiership, which we managed to achieve by finishing our maiden season as Motsepe Foundation Championship winners.
Local talent will always be at the forefront of the club’s development and one of our foremost priorities will be to provide promising young players in the broader region an outlet for their talent and the chance to make it in the professional ranks.
We will also continue using our proven talent identifying processes to cast our net further afield as we build an exciting squad capable of challenging for honours. More broadly, we hope shake up the local soccer scene a bit – to have a positive impact on the city of Durban and the KwaZulu-Natal province, and to play our part in contributing to region’s unique, vibrant energy and culture.
