In the wake of a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Stellenbosch FC at the Danie Craven Stadium, Durban City FC Head Coach Gavin Hunt struck a tone of pragmatic optimism, viewing the away point as a valuable step in his squad’s ongoing development.
Reflecting on the match, Hunt acknowledged the team’s resilient performance.
“I thought we did okay… we had a couple of good moments,” he said, highlighting the team’s ability to create chances before weathering a late storm. “The last fifteen minutes was tough… they threw the kitchen sink at us.”
The result must be viewed within the context of a demanding early season schedule. Hunt pointed out that the team has already navigated five away fixtures in their opening eight games.
“It bears well for what’s coming ahead,” he affirmed, emphasising the importance of building a platform.
“We just got to try and box clever… try and get ourselves out of here unscathed a little bit and then move on.”
Central to Hunt’s philosophy is patience and consistency, especially with a newly assembled squad. He stressed the importance of building rhythm and understanding without panicking.
“I’m trying to be consistent with the selection which I always think is important when you got a new team in the league.”
He acknowledged the process of integrating players from different clubs takes time, but praised the foundation provided by the core group retained from last season’s promotion campaign.
“A game like this, this is pure heart and guts and thunder,” he said, underscoring the passion and commitment he sees in his squad daily.
