DURBAN CITY FC READY FOR HISTORIC CAF CONFEDERATION CUP DEBUT

Durban City FC will make its first-ever CAF InterClub appearance on Sunday when the Citizens host Rukinzo FC of Burundi in the First Preliminary Round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Club secured its place in the competition after winning the Nedbank Cup during the 2025/26 season. The Citizens will begin their campaign at home at Moses Mabhida Stadium before travelling for the return fixture on 13 September.

The Citizens will face the 2026 Burundi President’s Cup winners, Rukinzo FC, who beat Aigle Noir CS 1–0 in the final to book their place in the CAF Confederation Cup.

With a place in the Second Preliminary Round at stake, Durban City will be looking to make home advantage count and put themselves in a strong position before travelling to Burundi for the return fixture on 13 September.

Head Coach Khalil Ben Youssef says the team understands what will be required when they take on Rukinzo FC.

“The preparation has been focused on making sure the team understands the demands of the competition and is ready for the challenge. We are playing the first leg at home, so we need to be confident, disciplined and focused on getting a positive result before the second leg,” said Ben Youssef.

The Citizens now prepare for a new challenge, with Sunday’s fixture marking the start of the Club’s first CAF campaign.
