Durban City FC have made a busy start to the 2026/27 season, competing across three competitions, the Betway Premiership, MTN8 and CAF Confederation Cup, during the opening weeks of the campaign.
The Citizens have already played seven matches across the three competitions, giving the squad an early taste of league, knockout and continental football.
The Betway Premiership has formed the bulk of the Club’s opening schedule, with City having played five league matches and currently sitting seventh on the table.
The position keeps the Citizens inside the top eight as the league campaign continues. The Club has also featured in the MTN8, adding knockout football to the earlyseason programme, while the CAF Confederation Cup has introduced a new experience for Durban City.
City’s 1–0 victory over Rukinzo FC at Moses Mabhida Stadium marked the Club’s first-ever CAF InterClub appearance. The result also means Durban City head into the second leg with an advantage as they prepare for their first competitive trip outside South Africa.
The busy opening period has required careful management of player minutes, with the technical team continuing to manage the squad as the campaign progresses.
Head Coach Khalil Ben Youssef has emphasized the responsibility of the technical team in preparing the players for the demands of the season.
“It has been a busy start for us, with seven matches already played across three competitions. We have to manage the players well, make sure they are physically ready and also keep everyone mentally prepared because every game is important,” said Ben Youssef.
The next assignment will take the Citizens to Burundi for the second leg against Rukinzo FC, with City looking to build on their first-leg result and continue their continental campaign.
