POGGENPOEL BUILDS ON BAFANA DEBUT

Durban City FC midfielder Brooklyn Poggenpoel made his senior international debut for Bafana Bafana last week, getting his first taste of international football in South Africa’s 5–0 victory over Eritrea.

Poggenpoel was introduced in the 12th minute after Bathusi Aubaas was forced off through injury. The midfielder settled into the match and went on to play the remainder of the game as Bafana Bafana secured their second consecutive victory in the AFCON qualifying campaign.

The midfielder also contributed to the scoring late in the match, picking out Oswin Appollis with a precise long ball in the build-up to South Africa’s fifth goal.

Appollis went on to assist Luther Singh, who found the back of the net for Bafana’s fifth goal. It was a memorable first appearance at senior international level for the City midfielder, who now turns his attention to another opportunity with Bafana Bafana. South Africa face Egypt tonight in an international friendly at Cairo International Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 20h00.
