Durban City FC travel to Polokwane this week for two important away fixtures, beginning with Tuesday evening’s clash against Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium (7:30pm kick-off), followed by a meeting with Sekhukhune United on Saturday.
The visitors approach these matches with confidence, having collected seven points from their opening three Premiership fixtures (two wins and one draw). Their hosts, Polokwane City, have experienced a mixed start to their campaign with one win, one loss, and one draw from their first three outings.
Fresh off a tough first ever KZN derby against Golden Arrows which ended a 1-1 draw, the team reassembled to begin preparations for the trip up country.
Head coach Gavin Hunt expressed satisfaction with the team’s early form, noting: “Seven points from three games, if you said that at the start you’ll take it. We will get better as well, there’s no doubt. Obviously a lot of new players have come in, so we’ve got to try and find a way to settle quickly,” Hunt said.
The experienced mentor has been particularly impressed by the environment he inherited at the club.
“I was pleasantly surprised at what I got when I arrived. It’s refreshing for me to see people that want to work and want to improve and want to do well, ” Hunt expressed.
“There’s a good mentality among the players. There’s a good group of people. Good humans in the game and that’s the most important thing for me.”
Hunt emphasized the importance of continued development, adding: “We got two tough away games now, so yeah, we move forward. They’re totally different games, but we have shown already that we have the desire and the will,” Hunt said.
The Durban-based club will look to maintain their unbeaten start against a Polokwane City side that has shown both promise and inconsistency in the early stages of the season.
