The first of two matches for Durban City FC in the Limpopo Province this week ended in a 0-0 draw against Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
The result at the end of a tight match with few clear chances, keeps Gavin Hunt’s side unbeaten this season with two wins and two draws.
The Citizens were nearly off to a spectacular start when Samkelo Maseko had a chance in the opening 30 seconds, but he was unable to make it count in front of goal.
The Durban side kept up their intense start to the game and had a good opportunity after 11 minutes when Joslin Kamatuka pounced on a loose ball and shot on the turn, the effort saved by Polokwane keeper Brian Bwire at the near post.
A cutback from Trevor Mokwena on the 20 minute mark only narrowly failed to find a team-mate as City continue to look bright.
While the home side started to play their way back into the game, it was Durban City who enjoyed the last chance of the half when Joslin Kamatuka prodded the ball against the crossbar after Mokwena had challenged for an aerial ball, a foul against the striker meaning it wouldn’t have counted even if the ball had gone in.
Following the restart, Polokwane posed more of a threat to the KwaZulu-Natal side’s defence as Sibusiso Tshabalala fired a volley over the bar from 10-yards out before Lebohang Nkaki sent a header off target.
At the other end, Durban City came close when Athini Jodwana’s chip from a tight angle out on the left landed on the roof of the net with 14 minutes to play.
The visitors showed good energy as they tried to go for the win, but their efforts were in vain as the Polokwane defence remained resolute.
City will remain in the Limpopo Province as we prepare for Saturday’s clash against Sekhukhune United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, 17H30 kick-off.
