Durban City Braced for Stern Sekhukhune Test

Durban City’s stay in Polokwane culminates in a significant Betway Premiership fixture this Saturday, as they prepare to take on high-flying Sekhukhune United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 17:30.

Following a resilient midweek draw against Polokwane City, Gavin Hunt’s squad has spent the week preparing on-site for their fifth league match of the campaign.

They face a formidable opponent in Sekhukhune, who currently sit top of the table, presenting City with a tough challenge as they look to build on a strong start that has yielded two wins and two draws.

Experienced goalkeeper, Darren Keet believes the club has developed well in a short space time, laying a good platform for what lies in front of them.

Looking ahead to the challenge, Keet acknowledges the quality of the opposition but remains confident in his team’s ability.

“I know it’ll be a tough game. We have to try and go out and give our best, try and get another clean sheet and see if we could grab a goal too,” Keet said.

A significant foundation of City’s success has been a formidable defensive unit, marshalled by Keet, who has kept three clean sheets in the first four matches.

Speaking about the team’s defensive solidity, Keet said, “Our defence has been massive for us. We’ve defended very well. We’ve put good shifts in from the center of the midfield and we’ve solidified that area quite nicely.”

The strength of the squad’s unity has been just as crucial as its on-field organization.

Keet highlighted the seamless integration of new players, stating, “All the new players have been welcomed pretty well. Obviously, every club is different; the culture’s different, the way things work are different, so we have to try and adapt as quickly as possible. But so far it’s been great and the results have helped too.”
