KLATE REFLECTS ON COMMANDING FIRST VICTORY IN DISKI CHALLENGE

Durban City FC delivered a composed and authoritative performance to secure their first victory of the DStv Diski Challenge season, defeating Magesi FC 5-0 at the Chatsworth Stadium on Sunday.

The result marks a positive step forward following the team’s opening fixtures, showcasing the squad’s growing cohesion and clinical edge.

The home side produced a disciplined and effective display, with Aphelele Zondi scoring a superb hat-trick and Luphumlo Sifumba adding a well-taken brace.

Head coach Daine Klate expressed his satisfaction after the game, highlighting the importance of patience and building a team.

“It proves that when you start a new team, it takes a bit of time and patience for the process to unfold. But, it’s only the beginning, still, but a very good and clinical performance,” Klate said.

The Gqeberha-born tactician also highlighted the importance of a disciplined defensive structure.

“The most important thing for me is that it was also our first clean sheet, so it ticked a lot of boxes in terms of the direction we would like to go in and to see the players responding to the tactical elements we are trying to implement within the team,” he explained.

“It’s a very good result and great for the confidence of the players as well.”

For City, this win provides a solid foundation as the young Citizens look to build consistency. Despite the resounding win, Klate has urged his troops to remain focused.

“We are looking forward to the next game against Polokwane City,” he stated. “We are going to put our heads down again this week and put in the necessary work required.”

Durban City’s next match will be on the 5th of October 2025 against Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. Kick-off is at 10:00.
