Durban City FC Head Coach Gavin Hunt has swiftly turned the team’s attention to their upcoming Carling Knockout quarter-final against Richards Bay FC, following a narrow 1-0 defeat to AmaZulu on Saturday evening.
A late goal in the 86th minute decided the contest, a result the coach felt was a harsh one for his side.
“Naturally, there is disappointment,” said Hunt. “We believe we performed well enough to get something from the match, but this is the nature of football. We take the lessons with us and now our focus must shift completely.”
Now ten matches into the new Betway Premiership season, Durban City finds itself in a promising position, having accumulated 15 points to sit fifth on the league log.
That shift in focus points directly to a crucial cup fixture this Saturday, 25 October, at the uMhlathuze Sports Complex.
Hunt emphasised the importance of moving forward, stating that the team’s mentality remains strong.
“The match against Richards Bay is a separate challenge and a fantastic opportunity for us,” Hunt commented.
The team earned their place in the final eight with a commanding 4-1 victory over Polokwane City in the previous round, a performance that showcased their pedigree and intent in this competition.
“It’s a different competition and our energy is now entirely on preparing for that task. The spirit within this group is excellent, and we will be ready.”
The club now looks ahead with full determination to the cup encounter, where a victory would see Durban City secure a place in the semi-finals of the competition.
