Durban City’s DStv Diski Challenge side delivered a statement of intent with a comprehensive 4-0 dismantling of local rivals AmaZulu FC at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Sunday.
Despite the emphatic nature of the victory, Head Coach Daine Klate immediately tempered the celebrations, issuing a clear call for focus and consistency from his young squad.
City’s massive derby win was courtesy of Lindokuhle Chonco, Odwa Nyulu, Cebolenkosi Nkabane, and Luphumlo “Kaka” Sifumba, who all found the net to give City the commanding win over their local rivals.
The performance, which propelled City to sixth in the standings and cemented their status as the league’s second-highest scorers, was a showcase of tactical discipline and relentless intensity.
Klate acknowledged the quality of the display, stating, “It was a complete performance. We dominated for the full 90 minutes, our intensity with and without the ball was excellent, and I’m very pleased with the application from the players.”
However, the coach was swift to shift the narrative from celebration to preparation, with a challenging trip to Stellenbosch FC on the horizon. “The hard work starts now,” Klate emphasized.
“This means nothing if we don’t back it up. The key for a young group is to learn how to produce this level, week in and week out. We must stay grounded.”
He singled out the defensive solidity, which resulted in a clean sheet, as a cornerstone for any aspiring team. “The foundation for any successful side is built on being strong without the ball. If you want to be among the best, you cannot concede goals easily. That was a very important step for us,” Klate noted.
