Durban City FC’s Carling Knockout Cup journey concluded after a hard-fought 3-1 extra-time quarterfinal encounter with Richards Bay FC on Saturday afternoon.
While disappointed with the result, head coach Gavin Hunt pointed to several encouraging signs from the performance as the team builds for the future.
Hunt emphasized that his team controlled large parts of the match and created numerous opportunities, highlighting the positives in their structure and intent.
“We started well and had good moments in the first half,” he said.
“The key for us now is to be more clinical in front of goal and to manage critical defensive moments with greater focus.”
The coach acknowledged the need for sharper execution but was clear that the team’s overall effort and tactical discipline provide a strong foundation.
With a massive Betway Premiership clash against Kaizer Chiefs on the horizon, Hunt has urged his squad to channel their energy positively, using the recent fixtures as a learning experience.
“We can’t dwell on this. It is part of our growth,” he stated. “We’re seeing improvement every week, and we will be ready for Chiefs.”
The four-time league-winning mentor concluded by reinforcing the team’s unwavering belief and long-term focus.
“We know what we’re capable of,” Hunt explained.
“It’s all about fine-tuning the small details, being more compact, taking our chances, and winning the moments that decide matches.”
