Durban City FC head into the FIFA international break in high spirits, using a positive week to build momentum for the next phase of a fiercely competitive Betway Premiership season.
Currently sitting seventh in the standings with 18 points from 12 matches, the team has established a strong foundation from which to launch their campaign.
Haashim Domingo’s beautiful strike secured a one-nil win for Gavin Hunt’s side at the Chatsworth Stadium against a tough Marumo Gallants outfit on Wednesday.
Head coach Gavin Hunt emphasized the unpredictable nature of the league, underscoring the importance of every point.
“Football in this league can go up and down quickly,” Hunt stated.
“Gallants beat Stellenbosch 4-0 and then lost 4-0; anybody can beat anybody. That’s why it’s so important to build consistency and secure your results, especially on your home patch.”
With the table remaining tightly packed, Hunt’s focus is on continuous improvement.
“We’ve played some difficult games, but we keep building,” he added, highlighting the process over any single result. The team’s current points tally, which includes five victories, validates their ability to compete at the top level.
Looking at the bigger picture, Hunt emphasized the competitive nature of the league and his team’s continuous growth. “We lost two league games by 1-0, but there was good football in those matches,” he noted.
“It’s just concentration at key moments, it’s something that we have to work on. Football in this league can go up and down quickly… We’ve played two difficult games, but we keep building.”
The break offers a valuable chance to regroup before the season’s next push. The Citizens will return to action against Richards Bay FC on the 23rd of November, fortified by their league position and ready to climb even higher.
