FROM THE TRAINING GROUND: DURBAN CITY PLAN FOR CRUCIAL PERIOD AHEAD

A focused calm defines the UKZN Howard College Campus, the daily training ground of Durban City FC.

In the lull of the international break, the frantic energy of a match week has been replaced by a deliberate and purposeful rhythm.

This is the sound of a squad fine-tuning its machinery, using this scheduled pause not for rest, but for a strategic reset.

For Assistant Coach Pitso Dladla, this period is a critical, planned interval on the season’s calendar.

“This break is something that we expected and planned for because it’s there in the calendar,” Dladla states, observing the structured sessions from the sideline.

“It provides a crucial window for two key objectives: managing the minor knocks we have, and focusing on deep tactical work to ensure we improve holistically.”

The context for this work is the momentum gained from a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Marumo Gallants, a result that lifted the team to 7th place.

“Our performance levels have been good, but turning them into wins was the challenge,” Dladla acknowledges.

“That last victory was vital. Our task now is to lock in that winning mentality and carry it forward.”

That mentality will be essential for a demanding end to November, featuring a KZN derby away to Richards Bay on the 23rd, followed by a blockbuster home fixture against Orlando Pirates on the 29th.

“The work now is entirely about specificity,” he explains. “We are deconstructing the specific challenges from our previous matches, and our sessions are designed to address them directly. Alongside this, we are drilling down into individual tactical development, sharpening each player’s development areas and reinforcing their strengths.”

Here at their Howard College base, the mission is clear. This is not a hiatus; it is a strategic pivot. Durban City FC is using every moment of this break to build the foundation for a decisive return to action.
