DURBAN CITY RESUME LEAGUE CAMPAIGN WITH FOCUS ON RICHARDS BAY DERBY

Durban City FC returns to Betway Premiership action this Sunday, turning their attention to a decisive KZN derby away to Richards Bay FC on Sunday at the uMhlathuze Sports Complex (18:00 KO).

The team resumes its campaign from a solid seventh place on the log, a position secured with a confident victory over Marumo Gallants at Chatsworth Stadium before the international interval.

Coach Gavin Hunt has utilised the past fortnight to refine his squad, with the clear objective of building momentum ahead of a critical three-match stretch before the AFCON break.

Striker Letsie Koapeng, a consistent threat with three league goals to his name this season, emphasised the squad’s preparedness.

“It can be tough coming back from a FIFA break,” Koapeng noted.

“We hope that we can get out of the gates a lot quicker than our opposition. We have prepared well.”

The derby represents a key opportunity for City to solidify their standing. While results in previous local fixtures against Golden Arrows and AmaZulu have been mixed, the squad’s mentality remains firmly fixed on the present.

“We are a team that tries not to focus on the past, we take each game as it comes,” Koapeng stated.

“We live in the now.”

A positive result on Sunday would see City secure a second consecutive victory, providing a powerful launchpad for the period ahead. The players are also conscious of the role their supporters will play.

“We know there will be lots of fans coming to get behind us and our goal is to make them happy.”

The stage is set for a committed and professional performance as Durban City FC begins this important phase of the season.
