DURBAN CITY’S FEZILE GCABA EARNS BAFANA BAFANA AFCON CALL-UP

Durban City FC defender Fezile Gcaba has been selected for the preliminary Bafana Bafana squad ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, a deserved recognition of his consistent performances this season.

The 26-year-old’s inclusion follows a standout campaign where he has been a fundamental component of coach Gavin Hunt’s defensive unit. His reliability and disciplined performances have made him a mainstay in the starting lineup.

Gcaba’s credentials for the national team are well-established at the youth level, having previously been capped for South Africa’s Under-20 side and featuring at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland.

His current form, however, has elevated his game to new heights. This was exemplified by a remarkable hat-trick against Polokwane City in the Carling Knockout, demonstrating a significant threat in the opposition’s penalty area to complement his defensive duties.

His call-up is a testament to his development and a point of significant pride for the club. Gcaba’s selection reinforces the pathway from Durban City FC to the national team and underscores the quality within the squad.

The Africa Cup of Nations begins next month in Morocco.

Bafana Bafana Coach, Hugo Broos will name his final 23-man squad on 11 December.
