BROOKLYN POGGENPOEL REFLECTS ON HIS BAFANA BAFANA CALL-UP

Durban City FC midfielder Brooklyn Poggenpoel has earned his first senior Bafana Bafana call-up after being named in Pitso Mosimane’s final squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying campaign.

Poggenpoel is one of five players receiving their maiden senior national team call-ups, with Bafana Bafana set to face Guinea and Eritrea during the international window, followed by a friendly against Egypt.

“It is a very proud moment for me and my family. Receiving my first Bafana Bafana call-up is something I have worked towards for a long time, and I am very grateful for the opportunity,” said Poggenpoel.
Poggenpoel also reflected on missing out on the final Bafana Bafana squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, having been part of the wider national team picture ahead of the tournament.

“I do not think it was a setback in any way. My motivation stays the same regardless. I spent some time at home with my family and close friends and just focused on preparing myself for pre-season and the season ahead.”

Poggenpoel has since joined up with the national team in camp and is now focused on the fixtures ahead.

“It has been good so far. I am looking forward to the games, and hopefully the team can get some positive results.”

Bafana Bafana will begin their Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying campaign against Guinea at Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday, 26 September.
