CITIZENS READY FOR ORLANDO SHOWDOWN

Durban City FC return to Betway Premiership action on the road this week when the Citizens travel to Amstel Arena to face defending champions Orlando Pirates on Thursday night, with kick-off scheduled for 19h30.

The Citizens head into the fixture on the back of progressing to the Second Preliminary Round of the CAF Confederation Cup after completing a 3–1 aggregate victory over Rukinzo FC on Sunday.

City won the second leg 2–1 in Burundi, securing another important away result in their first-ever CAF InterClub campaign. Back in domestic football, City currently sit ninth on the Betway Premiership table with six points from five matches.

Their most recent league outing ended in a 0-0 draw against Stellenbosch FC at Chatsworth Stadium, and the Citizens will now look to claim maximum points on the road against the defending champions.

Speaking to Durban City Media ahead of the match, midfielder Kyle Jurgens says the team has already shifted its attention towards Thursday’s meeting and is looking forward to the showdown in Johannesburg.

“We’re looking forward to the game. It’s another important fixture for us, and after the last match, we’ve had to quickly shift our focus and prepare ourselves for what’s ahead. We know what we need to do and now it’s about taking that preparation onto the pitch.”

Jurgens also got on the scoresheet in Burundi, opening the scoring inside the first minute as City went on to secure a 2–1 victory over Rukinzo.

The midfielder believes the recent results have given the squad confidence as the team continues to build its campaign.

“I think the group is in a good place at the moment. We’ve had some positive results and there’s confidence within the team, but we also know that every game is a new challenge. We have to keep that focus and continue working for each other.”

With the defending champions next, Jurgens says the team will need to stay together and carry out the work done during preparations ahead of the fixture.

“We have to stay focused on ourselves and make sure we carry out what we’ve been working on. We need to stay disciplined, compete for everything and remain together throughout the game. Those things will be important for us.”

The Citizens now head to Orlando Amstel Arena looking to turn their recent form into another positive league result against the defending champions.
