UNBEATEN DURBAN CITY GRIND OUT ANOTHER VALUABLE POINT

Durban City’s impressive introduction to the Betway Premiership continued on Wednesday evening as they secured a hard-earned 0-0 draw against Polokwane City.

The result at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium extends the team’s unbeaten run, solidifying a strong start that has seen them collect eight points from their first four matches.

Facing a physically demanding opponent and a challenging pitch, Coach Gavin Hunt’s squad once again showcased the resilient mentality that has defined their early campaign. The team stood firm to secure a crucial clean sheet and a well-fought point on the road.

Speaking after the match, Coach Hunt praised his team’s character. “I think it was one real physical, big strong side. They shut you down, as I said, they’re physical and you have to get to them,” he stated. “I don’t think that many teams will come here and get a result. We’ve got to give the team credit and everybody credit, in my opinion.”

The coach was particularly pleased with the defensive foundation, singling out his goalkeeper. “You speak about clean sheets and how important is that, Darren is a top, top goalkeeper,” Hunt said. 

“I’m sure that he’ll do well for us this season and he has good competition, which is the most important thing.”

Hunt also highlighted the squad’s transition to the top flight, a testament to their work ethic and quality. “We’ve handled ourselves quite well,” he said with assurance. “We’re going to be tested, we know that. But we have the belief that we can get ourselves in a good position and get points from any match.”

With eight points already on the board, the mood is optimistic. “Eight out of twelve points isn’t too bad,” Hunt reflected. “If we get eight in the next four games again, I’ll take it. Anytime you get two points a game, you know you are on the right track.”

Durban City FC must now quickly regroup as they remain in Polokwane for their next fixture. The focus shifts to Saturday. Where City will face Sekhukhune United at the same venue, with kick-off scheduled for 5:30 PM. Buoyed by their unbeaten streak in the Betway Premiership, Durban City will be looking to continue their positive momentum and add to their points tally.
