Durban City FC return to action on Saturday afternoon for a crucial derby clash against Golden Arrows at King Zwelithini Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 15h00.
The two KwaZulu-Natal sides meet once again in what has become a tightly contested rivalry this season. Their previous two encounters ended in 1-1 draws, while Durban City edged Arrows in dramatic fashion in their last meeting, advancing to the Nedbank Cup semifinals after a penalty shootout victory. This came despite being reduced to ten men following a red card.
Both teams head into Saturday’s fixture eager to bounce back from disappointing midweek results. Durban City suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat in their last outing, while Golden Arrows will be looking to recover after a heavy 5-0 loss to Orlando Pirates.
Speaking ahead of the match, Durban City head coach Pitso Dladla stressed the importance of the fixture and the team’s determination to respond positively.
“It is a very important game for us, especially considering that we did not get the desired result in our previous encounter. We have not experienced a situation this season where we have lost two games in a row,” said the coach.
“We know it will be a very difficult game against Golden Arrows, as they will also be looking to respond after recent results. Preparations have gone well this week, and the team is ready to go all out on Saturday.”
Although the match is officially away from home, the coach believes familiar surroundings and strong supporter presence could work in Durban City’s favour.
“It may be their home venue, but King Zwelithini is right next door for us as well. I’m sure our supporters will come out in numbers and make us feel at home. We appreciate the support they continue to give us.”
With local pride and valuable points at stake, Saturday promises another fiercely competitive chapter in this derby rivalry as Durban City look to return to winning ways.
