Durban City Football Club was honoured at a special gala dinner held on Sunday evening, 10 May 2026, attended by the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Mr Thami Ntuli, the Honourable MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture in KwaZulu-Natal, Mr Mntomuhle Khawula, SAFA leadership, sponsors, distinguished guests, and various stakeholders, as the province came together to celebrate the Club’s historic Nedbank Cup triumph.
The evening served as a celebration of the team’s remarkable achievement and the pride they have brought to the province through their success on the Nedbank Cup.
Speaking during the event, Premier Thami Ntuli praised the Club for representing KwaZulu-Natal with distinction and unity. “Durban City FC has given the people of KwaZulu-Natal a moment of pride and celebration. This achievement reflects the fighting spirit of our people.
The entire province stands proud of this team,” said Premier Ntuli. As part of the evening’s celebrations, Durban City FC Chairman Mr Farook Kadodia was presented with traditional Zulu symbols of warriorhood and honour, including an ihawu, umqhele, and induku, symbolising leadership, strength, and victory.
Members of the squad also received the symbolic items as recognition of the pride and fighting spirit they have brought to KwaZulu-Natal, as they continue their journey in pursuit of more success. The Honourable MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Mr Mntomuhle Khawula, described the occasion as a special moment for football in the province.
“This is more than just a football victory. It is a moment that has united the province and inspired many young people across KwaZulu-Natal. Durban City FC has represented the province with honour, and we celebrate them proudly,” said the Honourable MEC.
Durban City FC Chairman Farook Kadodia expressed gratitude to the provincial leadership, sponsors, and stakeholders for the continued support shown to the Club throughout the campaign.
“We are deeply honoured by the recognition and support shown to the Club. This celebration is not only for Durban City FC, but for the people of KwaZuluNatal who stood behind the team throughout this journey. We remain committed to building on this success and continuing to make the province proud,” said Kadodia.
The gala dinner concluded with celebrations honouring the players, technical team, and all those who contributed to one of the most memorable moments in the Club’s history.
