Durban City FC’s Under-18 side secured a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Engen Knockout Challenge after an impressive opening day at Kings Park Stadium on Saturday.
The Citizens began their historic tournament debut with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over eThekwini Lifestyles FC.
Durban City dominated the opening half, producing an assured attacking display that saw Luvuyo Mjwara and Mthokozisi Zozi find the back of the net to hand the side a deserved two-goal advantage before the break.
Although eThekwini Citystyles FC returned with greater intensity in the second half and managed to pull a goal back, Durban City remained composed to see out the contest and claim all three points in their opening fixture.
The second Group C fixture against Trouble Tigers FC presented a different challenge, with both sides producing an evenly contested encounter that was played at a high technical level. A solitary goal ultimately separated the teams as Trouble Tigers claimed a narrow 1-0 victory.
Despite the narrow defeat, Durban City’s victory over eThekwini Lifestyles FC was enough to secure qualification for the quarter-finals in the Club’s first-ever appearance at the Engen Knockout Challenge.
The Citizens will now face AmaZulu FC in Sunday’s quarter-final, with kick-off scheduled for 09:10 at Kings Park Stadium.
